Visit Barcelona: Modernism

Barcelona is a city known for its architecture, mostly for its unique style: Modernisme (or Modernism) - and we have Antoni Gaudí to thank for that! You may have heard of Sagrada Familia or Parc Güell...at least if you’ve already been to Barcelona.

It is also one of the most visited cities in the world, and so naturally, its most iconic museums, churches or buildings are ALWAYS crowded at summertime. I can assure you that as a local. That’s right, I am from Barcelona indeed, and I’ve also studied a Degree in Tourism, so I have a tip or two when it comes to that.

Sadly, most of these places are NOT FREE, so If I were you, I would try to choose wisely which ones to visit beforehand, as it can get quite expensive if you visit many of them.

IS THIS YOUR 1st VISIT TO BARCELONA?

The most popular Modernist buildings/places are:

- Sagrada Familia (15€)*: http://www.sagradafamilia.org/en/tiquets/

- Casa Batlló (24.50€): https://www.casabatllo.es/en/online-tickets/

- Casa Milà/ La Pedrera (22€): https://www.lapedrera.com/en/visits

- Parc Güell (7.50€): http://www.parkguell.cat/en/buy-tickets/

My tips:

º Buy tickets in advance, via internet. If you go without a ticket, it is likely that:

  1. They’ll tell you there are NO TICKETS LEFT for the day.

  2. There’ll be tickets, but you’ll have to queue for 1 or 2 hours.

º If you go during the summer, these places will be super full, so if you want to avoid that, go early in the morning.

º Some of them have an specific entrance time, don’t be late or you may not be able to enter!!

If you have already visited the MAIN ATTRACTIONS

- or you simply want to avoid crowds - Don’t worry, you will NOT run out of places to visit! Our city has loads of Modernist gems that are generally less known/visited by tourists:

- Casa Ametller (19€): http://amatller.org/en/

- Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau (14€): https://www.santpaubarcelona.org/en/visits

- Pavellons Finca Güell*** (5€): THEY REMAIN CLOSED as for August 2018

And many more!

*These prices are per person and they don’t have any discounts applied. Students, kids or seniors may be able to enjoy discounts (see in their websites).

**You might be able to find affordable concert tickets for Palau de la Música, I would look that up before visiting!

***You can find El Monestir de Pedralbes next to Els Pavellons. It is not a Modernist building, but I wouldn’t miss it!

Classification of Vegan Tourism

One could think of Vegan Tourism only as a type of Gastronomic Tourism, but as it was stated before, Veganism is a movement that not only concerns one’s diet, therefore we should really consider other
