One could think of Vegan Tourism only as a type of Gastronomic Tourism, but as it was stated before, Veganism is a movement that not only concerns one’s diet, therefore we should really consider other categories it could fall into.

For example, it could go hand in hand with Sport Tourism or Health Tourism, since normally activities such as yoga or fitness can be offered at vegan-friendly resorts or festivals. Tulum Vegan Fest[1] in Cancun, Mexico, is a good example of this practice.

It could also be related to Rural and Ecological Tourism, if one was to go to a Rural Area and stay in a vegan and ecologic hotel, such as Casa Albets in Lleida, Catalonia.

On the other hand, it could be considered Responsible Tourism, a type of practice that according to Responsible Travel[2] should encompass all types of tourism (not just nature based) and that it should deliver ‘better places to live in and to visit’ – with the emphasis firstly on creating better places for local people, and secondly for tourists.”

Vegan tourists could also practice Enotourism (known also as Wine Tourism), Cultural Tourism, as well as Cruise Tourism, since there are several Vegan Cruises available around the globe.

Nature Tourism, Honeymoon Tourism, Volunteer Tourism… in fact, Vegan Tourists could practice almost any type of tourism there is, except for ‘Hunting Tourism’ or ‘Fishing Tourism’. Moreover, visiting a Zoo or an Aquarium would not be considered ‘Vegan Tourism’, as well as visiting any organization that uses animals for economical purposes while travelling.

In fact, Spanish NGO FAADA[3] (Foundation for Advice and Action in Defense of Animals), offers a list of places around the world (such as Sanctuaries and Rescue Centers, where animals are healed and taken care of) where one can practice Ethical Tourism.
